Engaging Marriage Proposals for Brides to Be

Engagement Stories of Happy Couples When he Popped the Question

Feb 9, 2010 Stacey Abler

A marriage proposal is a question that most women look forward to receiving. These engagement stories show just how simple or elaborate successful proposals can be.

It is likely the biggest question of a man's life that contains only four little words - "Will you marry me?" But how, where and when it is done can leave a lasting impression on the bride-to-be as well as all of her friends. Popping the question in a unique way can make her swoon and bring tears to her eyes as he gazes up at her from one knee. These brides experienced that "aww" moment when their groom asked for their hand in marriage.

The Fairytale Proposal

Grant and Becky were enjoying a fun filled day at the Magic Kingdom of Disney World. That night, he took her for dinner at Cinderella's castle. Normally, guests order their appetizer, main dish and dessert all at once. Becky was a bit concerned when she was not allowed to order her dessert. After they finished their meal, the waiter arrived with a silver dome covered plate and placed it in front of her. He told her he had a special delivery and removed the dome top to reveal a glass slipper.

The slipper was engraved with their names, the date and "they lived happily ever after". The interior of the slipper was filled with rose petals and the ring was glistening on top. Grant got down on one knee and Becky admitted that she couldn't even hear what he was saying as everyone around them was applauding. She said yes and they watched the fireworks over Disney as a newly engaged couple that night.

Times Square

Michael decided that he would ring in the new year by presenting a ring to his girlfriend, Megan. While in Times Square waiting for the ball to drop, Megan decided it was too chilly for her taste and wanted to leave to head back to the hotel room. Luckily for Michael, the crowd was thick and it took some time to walk only two blocks so they were still within eyesight of the ball when it dropped.

At the stroke of midnight as the ball was dropping, he dropped down to one knee, opened the ring box and proposed. Megan chastised him saying that he had to put the ring on her finger to which he replied that the last girl took it out of the box and put it on her own finger.Perfect timing to bring up the ex-fiancee. Regardless, Megan said yes and they are now married.

Bring the Beach to Her

Guy and Lacey had their first date on a spring break trip to a Texas beach. A year later, Guy wanted to take her back to the same beach for spring break to propose but the trip just would not come together. So he cooked up an alternative. He instructed Lacey that she was not to look outside her house until he came to get her. She dutifully agreed and waited in anticipation all morning.

After several hours, he walked her outside to a man-made beach in the front yard complete with sand, beach chairs and a small pool of water. He dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him. Just after the proposal, the dogs ran out into the sand and decided it would make a great toilet.

Hiking for Love

Just after watching the Fiesta Bowl together, Kyle wanted to take Leah for hike. She was reluctant to go as it was cold and windy but she obliged. She thought the hike was getting a little long but Kyle kept insisting that they keep going. When they made it to the top, he continually asked Leah what she thought of the view. She replied that it was gorgeous as the spot overlooked the valley.

After additional prodding, she finally looked down and saw where he had spelled out "Will You" in rocks. He had worked with the park staff two weeks earlier to have it done. When she turned around with a look of shock on her face, he was down on one knee with the ring in hand.

The Death Box

Chris and Lizzy were attending his ring ceremony at the end of his junior year at a military college. Everyone was aware that he was planning to propose, except for Lizzy. The master of ceremonies asked for a volunteer for the death box demonstration where the drill team conducts a demonstration by tossing their guns around a person standing in the middle of the circle. Chris and all of his friends nominated Lizzy, who was not thrilled with the nomination.

As she stood in the middle of the circle with guns flying all around her, she closed her eyes. She only opened them when she heard applause and looked up to see Chris walking towards her. He dropped to one knee and remarked that his junior ring was about looking forward and he could not imagine moving forward without her. She accepted and later learned that he had also choreographed the drill team's routine.

Marriage proposals are an event that many women will remember with delight, a smile and even a few tears. An outside of the box proposal is not necessary, just a little forethought into how the event will take place. Make it special and speak from the heart for a proposal that will certainly melt hers.
